Department of Agriculture celebrated the World Pulses Day on 10 th Feb. 2025, as declared by UN. The day is celebrated to raise public awareness about pulses and the fundamental role they play in the transformation to more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind. An invited guest lecture by Dr. Raman Jeet Singh, Senior Scientist (Agronomy) IISWC, Dehradun was organized by the department for their UG and PG students. The program began with a welcome note by Dr. C.S. Pandey, Dean Department of Agriculture and Horticulture and a formal felicitation of invited guest. In his key note address on Pulses: Bringing diversity to agrifood systems, Dr. Raman Jeet Singh expounded the importance of pulses in the food entailing from the world economy to medicinal importance. He explicated that for centuries, pulses have been vital to sustainable agriculture and nutrition. These small but impactful crops not only provide essential nutrients but also support healthier diets and resilient farming systems, making them a key source of nourishment even for the most vulnerable communities, contributing on leaving no one behind. The interactive session encouraged students to have meaningful conversation with him on the topic. Students were extremely benefitted with his live and easy to understand examples. 188 students attended the event. All the faculty members of the department were also present on the occasion. A formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Pradeep Mishra, Head Department of Agriculture.
