Van Mahotsav or Forest Festival is an annual tree-planting festival celebrated in the month of July in which thousands of trees are planted all over the country. Van Mahotsav is celebrated to spread awareness of forest conservation and to save the environment. During Van Mahotsav, people plant saplings and encourage others also to do the same and various plantation drives are also carried out. The history of Van Mahotsav dates back to 1947 when it was first organized by renowned botanist Dr. M. S. Randhawa from 20th to 27th July. In 1950, it was declared as a national activity by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Shri K.M. Munshi to be carried out in the month of July. The Government, NGOs, Institutions, Schools, Colleges etc organize various plantation drives at various levels to encourage people to plant trees.
We also do our part by creating awareness, plantation drives and donation of sapling to encourage people to plant trees. The tree saplings are raised by B.Sc. Forestry batches 2018-22 and 2020-24 in the departmental nursery by various means.
