Workshop on Solid Waste Management

Department of Biotechnology and IQAC, Dolphin (PG) Institute of Biomedical and Natural Sciences, Dehradun, jointly organized a 2 days Sensitization workshop on Solid waste management on 1st and 2nd May, 2023. The invited guest speaker on the occasion was Mr. Vinay Kumar Rawal, EOHS Auditor, Coca-Cola India.

He explained that the term solid waste management mainly refers to the complete process of collecting, treating and disposing of solid wastes. In his interactive session he elaborated on the waste management process as how the wastes are collected from different sources and are then disposed off. The process includes collection, transportation, treatment, analysis and disposal of waste. It needs to be monitored so that strict regulations and guidelines are followed. Suggestions were also given by him so as to minimize waste generation in our day to day life.

A panel discussion was also held to make college campus energy efficient and a number of different reforms were suggested which can be adopted in our daily campus working to minimize the solid waste generation. On the second day, students made presentation on solid waste management and presented their ideas. 198 students and 23 faculty attended the workshop.

The 2 days workshop was highly informative as it made the participants aware of their role in protecting of public health and safety, and also improving environmental quality.
